Based on the film starring Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly, XANADU is the perfect blend of satire, parody and drama – all adding up to an electrifying, moving tale about following one’s dreams, no matter what the obstacles. The show follows the journey of a beautiful Greek muse, Kira, who descends from Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, California in the 1980’s. Her quest is to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest creation of all time: the first Roller Disco!
With XANADU’s classic numbers like “Magic,” “Suddenly” and “Evil Woman,” the audience will roll right along with the lively original musical score composed by pop-rock legends Jeff Lynne (of Electric Light Orchestra) and John Farrar. The original Broadway production opened in 2007 to glowing reviews, and was nominated for four Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
XANADU stars two out of town guest artists, HANNAH M. JAMES from Los Angeles as Kira & DANIEL DREWES from New York as Sonny Malone. Also starring in the show are local celebrities DERRIK LEWIS as Danny Maguire and KEISHA D as Melpomene. Joining this amazing principal cast are 5 triple threats WENDY COHEN, DANNY HANSEN, NICHOLAS SLOAN, ANDREA BELLATO and ALLEGRA ANGELO.
XANADU is directed by DR. WILLIAM LAYNE, choreography by DTL award winner ANTHONY NANNINI and will feature a live band under the musical direction of DAVID MCLAUGHLIN. Costume designs by SE LAYNE and scenic/lighting design by J.W. LAYNE.
Whether or not you liked the movie, you are sure to love XANADU, the musical.
