Palm Springs, CA – NestEggg Group, located at 320 North Palm Canyon Drive, will be hosting a one man art show for local artist Christopher Michael to benefit The LGBT Community Center of the Desert.
The show will open with a Reception on Friday, February 26th, from 5:30 to 8 pm, and run through March.
Christopher Michael was artistic from a very young age, and remembers helping his art teacher create props for a 1962 production of The King and I. Following his dream, he took courses at Los Angeles City College and later pursued a degree in fine art with a BA from California State University in 1982.
“At CSUN I learned to trust my instincts, be passionate, and understand color. I believe above all else I‘m known for my use of color,” he said. “Amazingly, I was accepted to Otis/Parsons where I pursued an MFA, and had the freedom to experiment and run wild. I moved into a loft in downtown Los Angeles and by accident began seriously working in mixed media. I used everything that came to mind, toy trains, floral supplies, toys and clothing, but soon discovered I worked better on smaller canvases,” he continued.
In 1989 Michael settled in Palm Springs and after trying other subjects narrowed his focus and began a series of wall masks with huge headdresses that he sold at VillageFest.
His focus for this one-man show are people, some mixed media, while others strictly paintings, including some self-portraits. “I am honored to be able to donate a portion of the proceeds to The LGBT Center of the Desert,” he said.
