Mango Restaurant and Ultra Lounge
I just reported that this business is closed. The actual name of the establishment when it opened in Nov 2011 was Mango. It's last weekend of operation was White Party weekend at the beginning of April 2012. It's a very nice indoor and outdoor space, so I hope something successful can open there soon!
Good dinners and Sunday Brunch
There are several dishes on the dinner menu that I rotate, so it's always hard to decide. Now, they also have one page of different kinds of burgers. The entertainment in the lounge area is always fun. There's a huge bar, so getting a drink is never an issue. We just discovered their Sunday Brunch. Impressed. For $12, I got an omelet with potatoes, as well as fruit and cheese plate before my food came. And you get a mimosa (with your choice of juice). Quite good. I will definitely return. Staff is always good and friendly.
Not your normal hotel restaurant
As a general rule I avoid hotel restaurants, they are either dull in both atmosphere and menu offerings and usually overpriced. On a friends recommendation I tried Dinks. I had been to the bar a few times when they hosted film festival events and liked the way it was laid out. On a Sunday evening, the place was fairly quiet, I doubt if there were more than 8 tables. In fact, the parking lot was so empty I thought it might be closed when I pulled up. I walked in and received an friendly greeting as was taken to a table right away. It was August and I wasn't really dressed for upscale dining (shorts and a tank top). Palm Springs is pretty casual year around and I never felt out of place. The decor is trendy; the bar is not separated from the dining room. Televisions in a nice dining establishment are a turn-off for me, although I did kind of get into watching "Easy Rider" without the sound. The staff was prompt, but not overbearing. I ordered a nice Pinot Noir from their fairly extensive by-the-glass wine list. I settled for a Southwestern Chili Rubbed Steak Cobb Salad for dinner. It was amazingly delicious! Well presented on a slim platter with the ingredients heaped into their own little pile and they bring you 2 large spoons to toss it to your own liking. The beef was cooked and seasoned to perfection and I have never had a Cobb Salad like this anywhere. This salad is $16 and while I wouldn't call it a great value, I would say that it is appropriately priced for the size and ingredients. There are lots of other interesting appetizers, salads and entrees on the menu and I am looking forward to my next visit to try some of those offerings as well.
