What do you bring to the table
Service was friendly, on the mark, with attention to making guests feel welcome, without overdoing it kids, This place is in the first year of operations, it has a charming atmosphere, great staff, and a tasty menu, If you like your food spice, then as in any restaraunt- I find this helps to tell when ordering food. I enjoyed the blue flour tortillas, food was right on with my buds, as in taste buds. Will reccomend the place to friends. Go with an open mind, the place is new and getting established. Location is on 111, South of Raquet Club, North of Vista Chino, so is Dinks, Toucans, and Ricks Cafe. , for those who say it might be too far north.
New place in PS, popular and a great value
This place is new to the PS dining experience. Their claim is all entrees under $9.95 and I think that is what makes the place so popular. I always wonder when you see value pricing if you really are going to get what you pay for. In this case, the answer is a definite "YES" - very tasty, well presented entrees (I had the Blue Tamales) and ordered a starter salad ($3.95) to go with it. They bring you a nice basket of complimentary chips that are not your ordinary house chips along with some specialty house salsas. The food and atmosphere combined are great. I have a feeling that when the season hit, this may be a difficult place to get into without a wait because once the word gets around, and theyll be beating the doors down to check it out. Full bar and great margaritas too.
lacklustre, bland, soulless
I had heard good buzz about this new place in town. The clean and modern environment and the mix of gay and hipster straight diners had us primed for a great evening. Unhappily, my dining companion and I, both foodies (and he with 30+ years in the restaurant business), each had one of the worst meals of our lives. My drink special, a mango margarita (it came with salt although I ordered no salt) frankly tasted like salty, soapy water. My appetizer (chile poppers) were mushy and the chipotle dipping sauce, which had sounded unique on the menu, was wholly underwhelming. My main course, shredded pork, was tough and unsavory. The beans, which our waitress had raved about, were bland as could be and the rice took me back to my elementary school cafeteria. We had a table full of unconsumed dishes and drinks (completely untypical for two dedicated eaters). Because we both love food and try to support local businesses, we had a lengthy discussion with our waitress - we knew this place was new and that they would want helpful feedback about quality issues. She was understanding and, although she should have removed the plates from the table immediately, went to call over the manager to hear what we had experienced. Mexican cooking is the soul food of the dessert and it's hard to mess up if ingredients are fresh and the preparation is thoughtful and done with love. The Manager, unprompted, told us not to worry about the food portion of our bill (which was the right thing to do although that wasn't the goal of our conversation). We then watched as the manager went and spoke with a man we assumed was the owner. When our bill came, only $7 had been taken off our combined dinners and the manager disappeared. This backpedaling of their own good faith left an even worse taste in our mouths than the poor meals had.
Bland
Love the looks of the place, pretty loud though, had the blue corn tamale, the sauce was not good, left an unpleasant aftertaste. The rice had almost no flavor and the black beans tasted like a bowl of canned plain black beans. My dining partner did not like his relleno either. The chipotle mac and cheese appetizer was bland as well. We won't go back.
